Scanned PDF to Word

Recognize text from scanned or image-only PDFs into an editable Word document locally in your browser.

Your files stay on your device. Processing happens locally in your browser — nothing is uploaded.

How it works

  1. Select a scanned PDF — drag it into the drop zone or click to browse.
  2. Pick an export mode: text only, page image plus text, or page image only.
  3. Run the recognition — it stays on your device the whole time.
  4. Download the .docx file and open it in Word or a compatible editor.

Why local processing?

Scanned PDF to Word processes your file inside your browser, on your own device. Your document is not uploaded to our servers. The browser may download code needed to run the tool, but those requests do not contain your file.

Check it yourself: open your browser’s network tab while a file is being processed — your document never appears in any request.

Frequently asked questions

Is my scanned document uploaded to convert it?
No. OCR runs in your browser via Tesseract.js and the Word file is assembled there too. Apart from the engine itself loading from this site, the network tab shows nothing — your scans stay local.
Is there a size restriction?
Each file can be up to 200 MB. Processing happens in your browser and also depends on available memory. Large or complex files may be slow or exceed your device’s resources even below this limit.
Can I convert GDPR-protected records to Word?
Everything — rasterization, recognition, .docx packaging — happens on your machine, so there is no server-side processing or retention of the document at any stage.
Will the Word file look like my original layout?
No — and the tool does not claim to. You get the recognized text (plus the page image, in the image modes) in a clean, editable document; columns, tables, and precise formatting are not reconstructed.
What do the three export modes do?
Text mode gives the smallest, most editable file. Image + text embeds each scanned page above its recognized text, so you can check against the original. Image only skips OCR entirely and just places the page images.
How good is the recognition, and in which languages?
English only for now, and accuracy depends on scan quality — sharp, straight scans of printed text work best; handwriting is not supported. Always proofread the result.
